Commentary to the song “For many lucky years...”

This song calls to mind the words from Vladimir Vysotsky’s song “A Lecture on the In­ter­na­tion­al Situation” (1979):

For years, I’ve forced a closed door like a stubb’rn ram — ’Stead of to set off for Tehran with the Qur’an!

And it is pertinent to quote here Lucius Annaeus Seneca’s words: “Ebrietas est voluntaria in­sania.” (“Drunkenness is nothing but voluntary madness.”)
